Southern Africa Genome Sequencing Research Project
Australian researcher, Dr Vanessa Hayes, initiated a project to help provide insight into the origins and treatment of complex human diseases including cancer. The project involved genome sequencing of Archbishop Tutu and four African bushman as African genes represent a more diverse pool and are vital for discovering how genes affect health and the effectiveness of drugs. So far Dr Hayes' project has identified more than 1.3 million new genetic variations which will be made freely available to help advance medical research around the world. Hyperion is pleased to be a supporter of the project.
